The firm

Sankofa Advisory is an independent economic and financial analysis firm specialising in real estate and infrastructure across francophone sub-Saharan Africa.

On these markets, public data is patchy, sometimes contradictory and rarely comparable from one country to the next. The firm cross-checks it, tests it against conditions on the ground and draws conclusions clients can act on, whether to buy, lend, build or allocate capital, with assumptions stated and sources cited.

Why “Sankofa”? The Akan word means going back to fetch what matters so as to move forward. The firm has made that its method: go back to the facts and analyse them before drawing conclusions.

The firm’s core values

The firm brings its expertise and institutional standards to investors, lenders, donors, developers and companies that invest or operate in francophone Africa.

Institutional excellence

The standards of the financial institutions where the founder has worked, applied to markets where information is scarce.

Rigour

Every figure is sourced, every assumption explicit and every calculation checkable.

Independence

The firm sells no financial products and discloses any interest in a transaction.

Clarity

Deliverables built for decisions: a clear conclusion, with its assumptions and limits.

Roméo Yombo-Nguitongo

The founder

Romeo Yombo-Nguitongo founded Sankofa Advisory. With 15 years’ experience in finance, he has seen real estate and infrastructure projects from all three angles: those of the investor, the adviser and the banker.

He then managed real estate funds at a family office and was a director in Natixis CIB’s research team.
Geographies and languages
He has worked in Europe, Brazil and Morocco and invested in listed real estate in Europe and the United States. He is fluent in five languages, including English, French and Portuguese.
Education and certification
He graduated from EDHEC with a double degree (Master in Management and Master of Science in Financial Markets), completed an executive programme in private equity and venture capital at Fundação Getúlio Vargas in Brazil, and holds the AMF certification (Autorité des marchés financiers, France).
